Early Careers Teachers (ECT)

All ELAN schools believe that it is essential that early career teachers (ECTs) are able to develop the knowledge, practices and working habits that set them up for a fulfilling and successful career in teaching and enable them to deliver an extraordinary education to our pupils. Therefore, ELAN’s ECTs are fully supported and receive their entitlement to two years of high-quality professional development support based on the Early Careers Framework.

We work in partnership with the local Five CountiesTeaching School Hub Alliance to ensure that our ECTs have access to a comprehensive programme of face-to-face and online training delivered by a DfE approved and Ofsted inspected lead training provider - The Education Development Trust.

An induction tutor coordinates our ECTs professional development and carries out termly progress reviews with each ECT. The induction tutor also conducts formal assessments ensuring that our ECT’s progress against the Teacher Standards is satisfactory by the end of their induction period. Thus, providing a strong foundation for our ECTs and equipping them with the tools to be an effective and successful teacher of our pupils.

In addition, each of our ECTs has weekly dedicated time with their induction mentor who provides, or brokers, effective support; provides effective targeted feedback and takes prompt action should their ECT appear to be having difficulties.

Our local Appropriate Body have an overseeing role and check that our ECTs are receiving a programme of support and training based on the ECF; that they are receiving their statutory entitlements and are fairly and consistently assessed.
