If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us. Email:  info@thebeach.extendlearning.org

The Beach is the training and CPD department of Extend Learning Academies Network (ELAN). Whether you are a new graduate or you are considering a career change, our teacher training will equip you with the skills to be an outstanding teacher. The Beach offers exciting opportunities to train to teach, run in partnership with Somerset SCITT and the University of Worcester.

Great reasons to train with us

  • An outstanding partnership: The Beach and Somerset SCITT (rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted for the high level learning, support and opportunities offered to trainees) offer trainees first class school placements.
  • Matching trainees to placement schools: every effort is made to carefully match our trainees to the placement schools that will best develop their skills as a teacher
  • Support into employment and beyond: We recruit trainees with the view to support them, through workshops and mock interviews, to secure their first post. Trainees that go onto teach one of our Trust schools are supported through our wide range of NQT and other professional development programmes.
  • Values-centred training: we are passionately committed to the values of co-operative schools that put people at the centre of everything we do. We are proud to offer a personal approach in everything we do and to afford people time, support and encouragement they deserve.

What we are looking for:

We are looking for professional trainees who have enthusiasm, empathy, resilience and confidence and who are eager to learn in order to support curious young minds.

We believe that good teachers make a crucial difference to children’s outcomes and wellbeing and so are looking for people who can inspire and motivate young learners.  We are dedicated to making a difference and our impact-focused provision seeks to inspire trainees to inspire the pupils they teach. Few sights are as rewarding as that of the curious young mind in pursuit of knowledge and few careers combine excellent professional prospects with the opportunity to share with others a love of learning that will last a lifetime.  To achieve this, we aim to build on the strengths of individual trainees, looking for people who have a passion and commitment to become the best teacher they can be.

How we select our trainees:

We work in partnership with Somerset SCITT in the selection process. Short listed applicants are invited to attend our selection day, which involves a pupil activity, interview, presentation, group activity and written reflective piece.  This is a thorough and rigorous procedure that enables us to ensure we select the very best trainees for our pupils.  The process is also an opportunity for you to find out more about (ELAN schools) Somerset SCITT, to ensure that we are the best provider to support you in becoming an expert teacher.
