The official date of the State Funeral is Monday 19 September 2022. This day will be a national bank holiday and all schools and colleges will be closed on that date - including all ELAN primary schools; Bournville, Locking, Mead Vale, Mendip Green, Milton Park, Oldmixon, Walliscote and Windwhistle.Schools reopen as normal on Tuesday 20 September 2022. Normal attendance is expected throughout the National Mourning period, other than the bank holiday.
As with normal bank holidays, on Monday 19 September 2022 there will be no after school clubs, holiday clubs, access to free school meals or school staff for enquiries.

Communication during National Mourning
Fri 09 Sep 2022As a mark of respect to our late Queen, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, our social media activity and that of our schools will be operating on a much reduced basis during this time of national mourning.
Non-urgent content will not be published. We understand that for many of us, social media is a main point for information and our schools will adapt accordingly and keep you informed in other ways whenever possible.
National Mourning is a period of time for reflection in response to the passing of the Sovereign, or other member of the Royal Family or a very prominent person in national life.
Once again, on behalf of our entire community of schools, our sincere condolences to the Royal Family on the passing of HM Queen Elizabeth II. We are most thankful for her life, legacy and the unique contribution which she has made on the country and the world; an incredible role model to millions of people around the world and to our children.
We offer HM King Charles III our very best wishes as he becomes our Sovereign.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
Fri 09 Sep 2022Our community today joins the rest of the United Kingdom in a period of national mourning for the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
We will consider as a community how we can best commemorate HM Queen Elizabeth’s reign over the coming days and weeks.
We encourage the community to respect one another. Not everyone will feel the same thing. Some people will be feeling this loss deeply. Even if others do not share that feeling, they should be respectful and sensitive.
Schools remain open, and we will share further details in due course when we are clearer about the arrangements for schools at the time of the state funeral, and subsequent coronation of the King.

Ukraine stay and play
Thu 21 Jul 2022Apologies for the delay in reporting. Mead Vale hosted their first Ukraine meet up at the weekend. It was well attended and provided a safe, quiet meeting place for Weston's Ukrainian families to come together, chat, play and enjoy an afternoon tea together.
ELAN and Mead Vale provided space, refreshments and support and we had volunteers from both Mead Vale and Bournville Primary School (including one special person who came on her birthday to volunteer and had Happy Birthday sang to her in both English and Ukrainian which was a very special moment). Mead Vale's new headteacher for September, Mrs. J baked the scones!
But the real stars were the families, who did most of the hard work on the day and created a really special atmosphere. So watch this space, there will be more of these stay and play sessions held in the future.

ELAN team working
Thu 19 May 2022Today, for the first time in years, many of our senior leaders and team leads from schools and the trust were able to meet together (- yes in person!) at the lovely Sidcot School.
It's rare to be able to take so many of us off-site to focus on new initiatives for children and work together on strengthening the wider team. Some of the team hadn't ever been together in person because they'd joined since the pandemic began, so today was an even more valuable experience for all who could attend.
We have a few more collaborative projects with Sidcot that are in the early planning stages following on from today so please watch this space!
Thank you Sidcot for your hospitality today - it was lovely as always.

Mental Health Awareness Week
Fri 13 May 2022This week has been Mental Health Awareness Week
9-15 May 2022 with a focus of Loneliness.
One in four adults feel lonely some or all of the time. There’s no single cause and there’s no one solution. After all, we’re all different! But, the longer we feel lonely, the more we are at risk of mental health problems. Some people are also at higher risk of feeling lonely than others.
Children also feel lonely too. It might be hard to understand how children can sometimes feel lonely, even when they are at school with their friends.
Free app, Ollee, funded by BBC Children in Need’s A Million & Me initiative, helps 8-11 year-olds identify and understand their feelings, and offers them support when their emotions might seem overwhelming. Building positive relationships is essential for children to find support and understanding – whether they are feeling sad, melancholic, misunderstood, lonely – or when they are not sure what their emotions are.
